Genetic resources search – information

Genetic resources search of the National Centre for Plant Genetic Resources: Polish Genebank (NCPGR) enables browsing through passport and evaluation data, photographs and other documents connected to the accessions in EGISET database. Also, it can be used to order seed samples from the genebank. EGISET is a database system for documentation of NCPGR collections. It…

Types of germplasm storage (ex situ, in situ)

Accessions in the genebank are stored ex situ (outside their naural habitat), for example in field collections, in vitro, liquid nitrogen or in long-term storage chambers. In situ storage is a type of conservation of genetic resources in natural populations of plant species, for example old fruit trees collections or protected species preserved in their…

What is evaluation data?

Evaluation data describe morphological and resistance traits of the accessions. The data include: three lettered country code of the country where the evaluation was made (e.g. POL), evaluation year (e.g. 1989) and sowing date (e.g. 1989-03-22).  Other descriptors depend on the plant that is evaluated, for example: oats has such descriptors as: plant habit, plant height,…

What is an accession?

Accession is a genetic material, which has a unique accession number. It can be a cultivar, population, breeding line or a landrace. If a genebank obtains a variety from two different places at different times, they get two different accession numbers, which means they are two different accessions.
